My Story is My Expertise
The experiences that shape my work
Lived realities
I grew up in a pastoralist community surrounded by nature and wildlife. Spending my childhood herding our livestock, learning the land, navigating climate change and absorbing and valuing indigenous knowledge systems that most development frameworks have never tried to understand. This is not background. This is expertise.
Built successful businesses
At 23, I built a successful business that grew into three companies, a football team, and a lifetime of hard-won lessons. That journey taught me why local ownership, ambition, and community trust are the only foundations that last.
Community-led projects
When statistics came in and girls from my former school had a 50% dropout rate, I mobilised resources and we started by addressing access to menstrual hygiene and knowledge — next came the first ever library in my community. Rather than assuming the needs, I appreciate sitting down and having real conversations, planning and prioritising together.
Multiple experiences
I have lived in Kenya, Belgium, Denmark and Germany — and worked in Cameroon, Kenya and Somalia, consulting for organisations including the European Development Bank, DFID, the Global Center for Gender & Technology under Stanford University, Common Light, and many more.
